S925 Sterling Silver is made out of 92.5% by weight pure 99.9% Sterling Silver and is blended or alloyed with 7.5% by weight of other metals usually copper, nickel or zinc. Because 99.9% Pure Sterling Silver is a relatively SOFT metal it has to be alloyed to increase its Hardness and Strength for jewelry, and it also keeps the Sterling Silver from Oxidizing or Tarnishing. There is NO difference between the term “92.5”, “925”, “.925”, “S925”, “Sterling”, “ss”, “ster”, “Sterling Silver”, and “S925 Sterling Silver” they all mean the same thing.
